LA SIERRA

Mosquera Valley is a place that features the essence of the Sierra de Espadán highly concentrated.

The Espadán Sierra Nature Park is set between the basins of the rivers Mijares and Palancia. The formation of this mountain massif dates back some 250 million years. Without doubt, the reddish sandstone gives Espadán landscape its particular character, forming sharp ridges and deep ravines, favoring filtering of rainwater and consequently the presence of numerous natural springs, as well as the existence of a unique flora dominated by the cork oak forest and the presence of many endemic species, such as la Bracera (Centaurea paui), "l'herba of llunetes" (Biscutellacalduchi) or (Hypericumandrosaemum) "el pericó de sureda" among others.

The rich fauna is the result of the wide variety of environments in the park, and can be easily observed:
Amphibians and reptiles: (common toad, natterjack toad and spadefoot toad, newt, ocellated lizard, ladder snake etc.)
Birds of prey: short-toed eagle, booted eagle, Bonelli´s eagle, goshawk, as well as nocturnal predators: eagle owl, long-eared owl and tawny owl.
Small mammals such as shrews and several species of fieldmice, which together with rabbits are the favorite food of predators such as foxes, weasels, badgers, wild cats, genets, martens etc.
All these natural values can be found condensed into La Mosquera Valley, in the district of Azuébar. The countryside of La Mosquera is much loved by Azuébar inhabitants and especially appreciated by visitors. Mosquera Valley is a place that features the essence of the Sierra de Espadán highly concentrated.

This is undoubtedly a real privilege for all nature lovers.
